Honkai: Star Rail has “Paths” instead of classes, and thus we have explained what the Honkai Star Rail Paths are. However, there are a couple of hidden mechanics and stat distributions between the Paths/Classes and it isn’t necessarily directly explained what each HSR Path represents, so we’re here to do exactly that!
While you could always find an amazing Honkai Star Rail account for sale that has strong characters and teams already, it’s necessary to understand how Star Rail Paths work if you want to build strong teams on your own!
What are “Honkai Star Rail Paths”
In terms of gameplay, HSR Paths are “Classes”, where you have your AOE/Mages as the Path of Erudition, or your single target DPS characters such as Assassin’s treading the Path of the Hunt.
However, in terms of Story – the Paths Honkai Star Rail more or less represent which “God” or “Aeon” the character is following, similar to how Archons work in Genshin Impact. Currently we only have about half of playable “Honkai Paths”:
- Destruction: Characters following the Star Rail path of Destruction are the “Bruisers” of Honkai Star Rail. They have decent defensive and offensive capabilities, but don’t excel at either.
- The Hunt: Mainly single-target DPS characters like Dan Heng who excel at destroying most bosses
- Erudition: This is the “Honkai Star Rail Path” that the mage stereotype embodies the most. Characters on the path Honkai Star Rail of Erudition are mostly based around strong AOE attacks and clearing out large packs of enemies.
- Harmony: Characters on this Honkai Path excel at buffing your team with various stat boosts such as Crit Rate/DMG, ATK, and SPD.
- The Nihility: These characters specialize in both DoT (Damage over Time) attacks as well as placing Debuffs on the enemy, such as lowering their various stats.
- Preservation: There are only three characters in this class right now, and they represent your “Main Tanks” in the team. These characters (March 7th, Gepart, and Fu Xuan) focus on defending your team in various ways, and have the highest Taunt values in the game.
- Abundance: The healers, clerics, etc. – While some Destruction characters have self-healing capabilities, Abundance characters are capable of healing your whole team while providing some minor buffs at the same time.
Taunt Value
The game doesn’t explicitly tell you this – but every Honkai Star Rail Path/Character has a hidden taunt value and some characters can boost or lower this value with their skills and buffs. For example, March 7th’s shield increases the taunt value of the character she buffs with it. Here’s the taunt value of each Path:
- Preservation: 150
- Destruction: 125
- Harmony, Nihility, Abundance: 100
- Erudition, The Hunt: 75
When making a team, you’d be wise to position your characters accordingly since enemies that have AOE attacks will usually use them on your highest taunt-value character, it would be smart to put them at one end of the team, either in 1st or 4th place. In that case, when the opponent does AOE damage it will only hit the main tank and one other character. An example of good team positioning would be:
Preservation | Destruction | Harmony | The Hunt
Or
Destruction | Harmony | Abundance | Erudition
Preservation and Destruction have the highest defensive capabilities in the game, and as such are usually the best to handle tanking. However, some niche team comps might rely on having your Erudition/Nihility/The Hunt characters taking damage so skills like March 7ths shield might come in handy to boost their Taunt values.
Conclusion
Understanding Paths/Classes is the key to good team-building, but understanding how each character works is equally important. Not all teams have to be “Tank, DPS, Healer, Support”, but as a beginner – you might want to start off that way as it’s the easiest and safest way to play the game. However, don’t forget that elements matter as well! Build your team accordingly and have fun! And if you want more game items, you can always head over to U7BUY and get them cheap!
